Hello Ladies,
I posted my monthly update last weekend and as always you are welcome to read it and peruse the website. If anything pops out at you that you would like to comment, provide feedback, or have questions on, please feel free to send them my way.
I don’t have any big technical or conceptual questions I want to pose to you at this time; the work is very much about the process at the moment, and I just need to work through it. I will be bringing work to NYC in January, and look forward to feedback you provide at that time on the actual, physical results of these explorations I am currently undertaking.
I find the big benefit of the crit group reveals itself in the NYC presentations because the crit group is the most informed of the work, the process behind its development, and are thus in the best position to provide feedback not just on the work, but on how we have presented it...what points come across in the presentation, what doesn’t. So for now, familiarize yourselves as much as possible with what I’ve posted and how I’ve posted it, remembering the website is a self portrait, and these thoughts and questions you have now might become part of the conversation in NYC.
In my year two project proposal I identified the exploration of writing as an important part of my studio practice. This meant not just the use of text in the visual work, but text as text...writing to be read as writing, addressing ideas relevant to what I am exploring in the visual work. If you would like a specific area to discuss I invite you to visit a posting I made this week [after monthly update] in the Year Two Writing pages: An Open Letter to Joseph Nechvatal.
A number of links have been placed on that page; please click on them in order to have the best understanding of what I am writing about. It is important to read Dr. Nechvatal’s Open Letter to Frank Stella first before continuing on to read my response to it. At the end I have added an addendum to what I wrote as it took a direction I did not originally foresee when I posted the piece on Monday.
I would love to hear what you have to say on the exchange, the writing, and the ideas both Dr. Nechvatal and I are addressing in our writings.
Have a great week! See you in seven weeks in NYC!
Best,
Robyn
